About the Tour

Nagzira is the dream nature gods dreamt! Lesser known, rugged, raw and unexplored, Nagzira lies at the tail end of the Satpura mountains, nestled in the Gaikhuri hillocks, and at its heart lies the beautiful Nagzira lake. For those seeking solitude, Nagzira promises a safari experience untouched by the hustle of crowds. The jungle, dedicated to, and named after Naagdev, offers great opportunities to observe and photograph spectacular wildlife including some beautiful birds of prey like the Crested Hawk Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle, and the Grey-headed Fish Eagle.

Highlights

  • Nagzira gets its name from the god Naagdev, the guardian of the forest, and Pongezara, the eternal water source that originates from the hillock of Naagdev temple
  • One of the best places in central India to observe leopards – a rarity in rest of the jungles
  • The famous tiger named Jai was born and brought up in the Nagzira Tiger Reserve
  • Although Vidarbha is known to be a dry region, Nagzira is covered in lush greenery throughout the year

The Footloose Factor

Visiting a jungle for 4 days, and living next to a jungle for generations – these are two very different experiences of the same place! “Meal at a villager’s house” provides travellers an opportunity to converse with the locals and gain insights into how these villagers coexist with animals, navigate daily challenges, and embrace a lifestyle shaped by the rhythms of the forest. It provides a deeper understanding of the delicate balance between human life and wildlife conservation in such areas.
